Principles of Special Educational Needs (SEN) - Level 3 Certificate

Our Level 3 Principles of Special Educational Needs (SEN) course is designed to help you develop and extend your overall knowledge to help you progress within childcare, teaching and family support.

It’s suitable for those seeking a career in these fields, with a desire to understand more about supporting those with SEN.

The course includes several units that cover a wide range of behavioural and developmental issues you may encounter when caring for children with SEN and how to support them.

One learner who recently completed the programme is Amanda from Bolton, who took the time to leave us her feedback about her experience on the course.

Amanda's story

Amanda joined our course at a point in her life where she found her self unemployed and struggling with her confidence to find a new career. She wanted to pursue a career working to support children but was unsure where to start.

She explained her reasons for enrolling on the course, her hopes of securing a new role and what the course involved.

I joined this course as at the time, I was out of work, and I felt at my age I needed to do more to secure a good job for the rest of my future. During the course, I completed five separate units with multiple tasks included, all around the topic of children with Special Educational Needs, with a final task on data protection.

Enjoyable experience

Amanda also explained what she most enjoyed about the course, working and learning with her fellow learners and getting to hear about their experiences before joining the course, as well as gaining an accredited qualification at the end of her training.

"I really enjoyed the interaction with other people about their shared experiences in life and in work, which helped me with my own mental health issues. Also, gaining a Level 3 certificate in the process made me feel pretty good!"

Recommendations and advice for others

Amanda also revealed that since completing the course, she’s recommended it to a friend who’s in a similar situation to her own, as well as offering some words of advice for others who may be thinking of enrolling.

"I've already recommended this course to a friend, as they also want to do this line of work and saw the struggle I had to get a break. It has been a great four weeks for me and now I feel I am going into a new career with something to offer.

My advice for others would be to not let the first day put you off, as it can be nerve-wracking. But as I found, it was my lack of confidence in my own abilities which made me want to quit after the first day. I also remember the tutor (Suzanne) saying over and over that the first day is the same for everyone, and that is what made me log back in on day two and every day after."

New role secured

Not only did Amanda successfully complete the course, gaining an accredited Level 3 qualification in the process, but she also managed to secure a new role following completion of her training.

"I'm so pleased to have got a job in residential childcare and they are also putting me through a childcare diploma over the next 17 months."
