Principles of Special Educational Needs (SEN) - Level 3 Certificate
Our Level 3 Principles of Special Educational Needs (SEN) course is designed to help you develop and extend your overall knowledge to help you progress within childcare, teaching and family support.
It’s suitable for those seeking a career in these fields, with a desire to understand more about supporting those with SEN.
The course includes several units that cover a wide range of behavioural and developmental issues you may encounter when caring for children with SEN and how to support them.
One learner who recently completed the programme is Corey from Manchester, who took the time to leave us his feedback about his experience on the course.
Corey's story
Corey had ambitions of securing a new career working with children and enrolled on our Level 3 Principles of Special Educational Needs (SEN) course to learn more about working with and supporting those with additional needs.
He explained his reasons for choosing us and how the course related to his desired career choice.
"I heard about the opportunity and it really related with my career path, so as soon as I heard about the course I knew that's what I needed but after being with B2W, I would definitely choose them again for future courses in education."
Relevant learning gained
Corey also explained in detail the learning he gained while on the course, and how the knowledge he gained from his tutors has now set him up to secure a new role working within education.
"We learnt a lot on the main principles of Special Educational Needs. I have learnt about different disorders and policies and legislations within schools, and strategies to develop children's development and approaches to promote positive impacts on children in education. I feel confident I can work in a school with the knowledge I have from this course, despite having not much hands on experience, the course has given me the confidence in understanding on a wider scale."
Enjoyable experience
Corey also revealed how much he enjoyed the experience on the course, learning as a group with his fellow learners, and how the unit on Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN) led to him seeking support on his own issues with speech to better understand the needs of those with SEN.
"I have enjoyed socialising with the other members of the group, sharing inputs and job opportunities to support each other. I have also enjoyed the interactive games that have taken place, the more the better I would recommend, but all related to learning the Information needed.
I have enjoyed working on unit 3 the most, as I have relooked at myself with SLCN, and it's inspired me to look at how it's affected myself and now seeking speech therapy, I can fully understand the problems that have impacted my life. Lastly I have enjoyed the company from my two tutors, they have been amazing and supportive throughout the course and it's just nice to speak to someone interested in what I have to say, as well as learning from them and their experiences."
Recommendations and advice for others
Corey offered some words of advice for others who may be thinking of enrolling on the course, as well as revealing how the qualification has given him a fresh outlook on his career as he begins to pursue new opportunities working in education.
"I would definitely recommend B2W to anyone seeking a career in teaching. The tutors have years of experience in the field and the knowledge really shows that, which is a great resource when going into this profession. The course itself is not too hard or stressful, there is support all throughout the day if needed and it’s a really nice environment to complete this course.
The qualification itself has changed the whole outlook of my career when applying for teaching jobs, it's important in this day and age as more children are born with SEN, so these schools are the future and we need to be the best we can be in later generations.
I'd say the course is great and supportive with amazing teachers to help you along the way, definitely worth doing."
New role secured
Not only did Corey successfully complete the course, gaining an accredited Level 3 qualification in the process, but he also secured a new role working as an Outdoor Instructor working with children, while applying for roles within SEN schools.
"Since completing this course, I've applied for roles in SEN schools while waiting for other teaching opportunities until Christmas.
After the new year, I'll be moving to Shrewsbury to live and breathe the life of an Outdoor Instructor, where I can have training and hands on experience with children constantly throughout the week. This will give me the hands on experience I lack and build my confidence in leading groups and speaking, along with the speech therapy. Then after I've achieved my qualifications, I will begin working in schools and feel more prepared and confident in working with children."
