Case study: PureGym

Thanks to our fully funded pre-employment training service, we provided suitable, qualified and motivated candidates to fill Personal Trainer (PT) vacancies across multiple locations for PureGym.

The challenge

PureGym were looking for quality, motivated and suitable entry-level candidates to become self-employed personal trainer's (PT's) at a range of new sites located in London, Nottinghamshire and other areas.

They'd previously used Sector Based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs) to help with their recruitment efforts, but felt that previous candidates lacked the information and knowledge required about becoming a self-employed PT at their sites, and the career benefits this brings.

This led to a number of issues that are all too common for employers...

  • High turnover of staff

  • Too many "unsuitable" candidates at interview

  • Expensive and time-consuming hiring process

What we did

After being introduced to Nathan Pennington (Gym Recruitment Manager at PureGym), we quickly identified that our pre-employment training programmes could offer a cost-effective recruitment solution for their needs.

This meant Nathan and PureGym would not only receive suitable candidates ready to interview, but also candidates that had:

  • Already completed relevant training

  • Received industry-recognised qualifications in the process

  • Gained a thorough understanding of the role on offer and what life as a PT involves
  • All at zero cost

We also set up “experience days” for candidates so they could visit the PureGym site in the local area and get a feel for the environment and ask any questions about the role and what's involved.
