Networking & Cybersecurity course - Learner feedback
Our Networking & Cybersecurity course (Level 3) is designed to help you develop and extend your overall knowledge of cybersecurity to help you gain an entry-level role in this industry..
It's designed to teach you:
- Fundamentals of data communications
- Network management skills
- Basics of ethical hacking and project management
- Understanding of access control
- Knowledge of network threats & vulnerabilities
One learner who recently completed the programme is Dada from Manchester, who took the time to leave us his feedback about his experience on the course.
Dada's story
Dada was looking to power up his knowledge in cybersecurity, after deciding that this was the industry he wanted to build a career in.
He began by telling us his reasons for choosing to enrol on the course, and the practical elements of the programme that appealed to him.
Relevant learning & tasks completed
Dada continued his feedback by explaining in detail the types of knowledge-based and practical tasks he completed on the course, as well as the types of programmes and software he was introduced to during the course.
"I completed a range of practical projects and tasks designed to develop both technical and professional skills in networking and cybersecurity. These included access control implementation, where I learned how authentication, authorisation, and permissions are used to protect systems and data.
"I performed networking tasks that involved network design, configuration, and troubleshooting, utilising Cisco Packet Tracer to build and simulate network topologies, configure devices, and test connectivity in a controlled environment.
"The course also utilised project management software (Trello) to plan, monitor, and track project activities. This included defining project phases, setting timescales, allocating tasks, managing risks, and conducting interim reviews, which helped develop strong organisational and time-management skills.
"In addition, I completed ethical hacking tasks, including website vulnerability scanning, network vulnerability scanning, and reconnaissance activities. These tasks focused on identifying security weaknesses, assessing risk, and producing structured findings and recommendations while working within ethical and legal boundaries.
"Overall, these projects provided hands-on experience across networking, cybersecurity, project management, and ethical hacking, preparing me for further study or entry-level roles in the technology and cybersecurity sector."
Advice & recommendations for others
Dada also offered some words of advice for fellow learners, and those who may be thinking of enrolling on the course in terms of what to expect.
"I'd definitely recommend this course because it offers a strong balance between practical skills and theoretical understanding.
"The hands-on use of tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer and Trello makes learning engaging and helps build real-world skills that are directly relevant to networking and cybersecurity roles.
"The course is well structured, supportive, and focused on employability, helping develop not only technical knowledge but also transferable skills such as time management, problem-solving, and teamwork. It provides a solid foundation for further study or entry-level roles in the technology and cybersecurity sector, making it a valuable and worthwhile course.
"I'd advise anyone applying for this course to be well organised, motivated, and open to learning, especially if they're new to networking or cybersecurity. Having a basic understanding of computers and being comfortable using online tools such as Microsoft Teams will help you get the most out of the sessions."
Knowledge gained & next steps
Not only did Dada successfully complete the course, but he also gained an accredited Level 3 Certificate in Networking & Cybersecurity to add to his CV.
He concluded his feedback by revealing the next steps in his learning journey, his hopes for securing an entry-level role in Cybersecurity and summarising the skills he gained during his time on the course.
"The combination of practical skills and confidence in my abilities has prepared me well to pursue entry-level roles and continue developing my career in the technology and cybersecurity sector.
"My next steps are to secure an entry-level role where I can apply the skills I've gained from this course. I'm actively looking for opportunities such as junior network technician, IT support analyst, cybersecurity trainee, or SOC analyst (entry-level) roles.
"Alongside this, I plan to continue developing my technical skills through further hands-on practice, additional certifications, and real-world experience.
"I feel confident in progressing in my career after completing this course. The training has given me a solid foundation in networking and cybersecurity concepts, along with practical experience using industry-relevant tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer and Trello."
